Morning after breakfast, you’ll be picked up by jeep to continue the journey to Sukamade Beach for a 4h drive. Sukamade Beach is a stopover for four of the world's seven sea turtle species (Chelonia mydas, Eretmochelys imbricata, Lepidochelys olivacea, and Dermochelys coriacea) by visiting the Meru Betiri National Park coast to lay their eggs. Due to various threats to the turtle eggs, local residents took the initiative to help save the new generation of ancient reptiles, but the eggs will still be relocated to a semi-natural hatchery. Due to various threats to the turtle eggs, local residents took the initiative to help save the new generation of ancient reptiles, but the eggs will still be relocated to a semi-natural (hatchery).
Tour will start with a very challenging journey through rivers and dense tropical rainforests. From Banyuwangi to the entrance of Meru Betiri National Park takes 2 hours. Then, 1 hour 30 min drive to get to the entrance of Sukamade (passing through a damaged road). Finally, from the entrance of Sukamade to the ranger house takes 1h. It's all surrounding by the wonderful landscape.
Once at the ranger house (Guest House) where you stay, you have free time to explore the surroundings. At 18.30, you will have early dinner before preparing for the tour. Before leaving for the beach for turtle nesting observation, at around 20.00 you will gather to be briefed on the do's and don'ts of turtle nesting observation.
After the briefing, you will go together to the beach for turtle observation with a distance of 700m from the ranger house. If you are lucky you’ll be able to see a very crucial moment, starting from the process of turtle laying eggs until the mother turtle returns to the ocean. Afterwards, you return to the ranger house for a rest in a simple Guest House or ranger house.
